News and notices from St Michael's | Pānui o te Haahi o Mikaere Tapu
Coming up in our family of faith this week.
Rev Rebecca writes:
This week’s news is largely a repeat of last week, but check out the new opportunity coming up very soon to join in workshops discussing Christian perspective on Te Tiriti o Waitangi…read on, see you Sunday, and many blessings to you on this beautiful autumn day.
Tomorrow: Training Day!
Our Diocesan Training Day is….tomorrow! Saturday 4 May at The Street, Wellington, from 9.30am. A bit of a different venue this year but fun to be in the middle of town. This year’s event has streams which will cover topics around aspects of being Jesus people who gather, people who worship, and people who work. So lots of practical ways to support our journeys of faith in the everyday realities of our lives.

Coming up soon: Treaty Basics from a Christian Perspective
As Jesus people, it’s often hard to navigate our way through our history, and what it means for our contemporary landscape. As our year progresses, there will continue to be heaps of public discourse around the Treaty of Waitangi and what it means now.
We have been given an opportunity to host two workshops which offer a Christian perspective on Te Tiriti. These take the form of two 90 minute video sessions, over two weeks. You can see more information in the promo video below.
The turnaround time on this is short! Our first session will be Wednesday 22 May and the second on Wednesday 29 May, both at 7.00 pm in our church hall.
If you’re curious to hear perspectives about why Te Tiriti matters today from a Christian perspective, you are warmly invited. Please RSVP to Rebecca (rebecca@newlandsanglican.org.nz) as there is a participant discussion booklet to email out in advance. And there will be dessert!
We’ll also be offering this opportunity to other local churches, so want to be good hosts as St Mike’s whānau. If you can help with hosting the space well, please let Rebecca know.
Any questions please don’t hesitate to talk to Rebecca or Richard.
Thy Kingdom Come: starts next week
Check out the cool Thy Kingdom Come resources on their way from the Diocese. Thy Kingdom Come is a global initiative in which across the world we pray for 5 people to come to know Jesus for the 10 days until Pentecost. Start praying about who those people might be now.
There’s a daily booklet to guide your prayers which you can also receive daily via email, and a great session on Zoom on Thursday 9 May at 7pm to help you learn some prayerful listening techniques for your 5 people.
Here at St Mike’s we will hold daily night prayer from 9-19 May, in person and with a Zoom option too.
Treasurer’s Update
An update on parish finances to 31 March 2024 from our Treasurer, Jan Robertshawe:
General Fund
Opening Balance 1 March $59,945 Income $8,979 Spending $9,021 Closing Balance 31 March $59,903
Thank you to all who continue to support the parish. We have recently received our Insurance bill for the year which is $13,899.65. This is being paid off over the rest of the year. Please prayerfully consider if you are able to make a donation to help cover this cost. For those who will be receiving donation tax credits from their donations over the past 12 months, perhaps you could prayerfully consider donating some of this back to the parish?
Likewise if you have any suggestions on fundraising activities that we could undertake as a parish please speak to a member of Vestry.
If you wish to set up an automatic payment and need help with this please speak to me.
Let us pray | Ka inoi tātou
This week, let’s pray for:
For the peace of Jesus to reign in all areas of conflict in our world;
Our new vestry team;
For those in our church family and beyond suffering from seasonal and other illnesses
For those in public service feeling fearful for their jobs at the moment;
Our year ahead as a church whānau, particularly discipleship groups, Alpha later this year, and our building project;
Absolutely and utterly pray for growth and revival;
For boldness for all of us to share the name of Jesus
